According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 12% over the next decade. Much faster than the average for all occupations!

Upon completion of the course, the student will:

  • Be able to process the entry of prescription information and drug history into a data/record keeping system.
  • Process counting, measuring, or compounding of a drug to be dispensed.
  • Prepare prescription labels or patient information, and package a drug to be dispensed.
  • Manage inventory, including stocking automated dispensing devices.
  • Identify classification of drugs and the therapeutic usage of the 200 most commonly prescribed drugs.
  • Convert calculations from one system of measurement to another.
  • Be knowledgeable of the laws, standards, and ethics for technicians, including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) confidentiality compliance.
  • Apply interpersonal skills and effective communication with community in a health care setting.
  • Be prepared for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or state Examination board review.
