Welcome to the FMCSA Medical Examiner Training Course


STATEMENT OF NEED

The National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners was established in accordance with the final rule published by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in the Federal Register on April 20, 2012. This rule requires that all medical examiners (ME) who conduct physical examinations for interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers:

  • Maintain a valid State license to conduct medical examinations;
  • Complete required training on FMCSA’s physical qualification standards;
  • Pass the ME Certification Test to demonstrate a sound understanding of FMCSA’s physical qualification standards; and
  • Complete periodic training and recertification testing. The National Registry

There are over 40,000 medical examiners currently conducting physical examiners for CMV drivers that must adhere to the requirements set forth by FMCSA.


ACTIVITY GOAL

This educational activity will provide professional understanding to medical examiners for conducting CMV Physical Examinations in accordance to the FMCSA Guidelines in an effort to promote improved safety on interstate highways.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this CE activity, participants should be able to:

  • Perform physical exams on CMV drivers in accordance to the FMCSA Regulations and Guidelines.
  • Apply the FMSCA driver physical qualification standards, medical guidance and advisory criteria when determining medical fitness for duty in the CMV driver.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Chiropractors with an interest in conducting physical examinations for CMV Drivers.


CREDIT INFORMATION

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the joint sponsorship of CME Outfitters, LLC and MedPro, The Health Studies Division of ECPI University. CME Outfitters, LLC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CME Outfitters, LLC designates this live activity for a maximum of 10 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

At the end of the course, participants will receive a Certificate of Completion. Should he/she elect to receive CMEs for the course, a link will be provided to provide a post quiz and record attendance of the course. Once the post course is passed at 80% or higher, the participant will receive their CME certificate to print.
